The Space Systems Innovation Platform — SSIP — is addressing that challenge through two complementary initiatives: SSIP ATLAS and Space BioDistrict.
One is designed to make the ecosystem more intelligible.
The other is designed to make it easier to activate.
Together, they reflect a broader ambition: to help organisations move more efficiently from ecosystem discovery to partner identification, pilot development, testing, production and commercial implementation.

SSIP ATLAS is a secure, sourced and continuously evolving ecosystem-intelligence platform.
It is designed to connect fragmented information about organisations, capabilities, laboratories, test facilities, infrastructure, technologies, supply chains, relationships and emerging opportunities across the Swiss space ecosystem.
The distinction is important.
A conventional directory helps a user find the name of an organisation.
SSIP ATLAS is intended to help users understand what to do next.
Companies may use the platform to identify potential suppliers, specialised technologies, research partners or testing capabilities.
Research organisations may use it to explore industrial collaborations and build stronger consortia.
Investors and international companies may use it to understand where specific capabilities exist and how different organisations are connected.
Mapped. Sourced. Searchable. Actionable.
Information should not only be available. It should support a better-informed decision.
SSIP ATLAS is independently developed by SSIP and is offered through organisational subscription access.
It has no governmental mandate and should not be interpreted as an official representation of the Swiss Confederation, the Swiss Space Office or the complete Swiss space sector.
Its value comes from structured intelligence, transparent sourcing and SSIP's independent ecosystem knowledge.
From intelligence to implementation
Understanding an ecosystem is only the first step.
Companies also need a credible pathway to access the laboratories, test sites, production capabilities, partners and expertise required to develop a project.
That is the purpose of Space BioDistrict.
Anchored operationally at TECHNOPARK® Luzern and coordinated independently by SSIP, Space BioDistrict is being developed as a specialised ecosystem for space-enabled life sciences, microgravity, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and space infrastructure.
Its concept takes inspiration from one of the most valuable characteristics of Silicon Valley: concentrated access to the people, infrastructure, expertise and capital required to move quickly.
This does not mean that every laboratory, production facility or test site must sit inside one building.
The model is distributed.
A company should, however, be able to enter through one coordinated operational point and be connected with the appropriate capabilities across Lucerne, Switzerland and SSIP's international network.

Lucerne as an operational entry point
Lucerne provides a compelling environment for the initiative.
TECHNOPARK® Luzern offers an operational base connected to a deep-tech and entrepreneurial environment.
Scientific capabilities in the wider ecosystem include organisations such as HSLU and BIOTESC, with relevant experience in space biology, microgravity research and biological experiment operations.
These references do not imply that the institutions are controlled or represented by SSIP, or that they participate automatically in every project.
Their relevance depends on the specific scientific and technical requirements of an opportunity.
For international companies seriously considering establishing or expanding activities in the Canton of Lucerne, SSIP follows a clear referral practice.

The organisation does not seek to replace existing institutions, associations, research organisations or public authorities.
It seeks to reduce friction between them.
An independent model
Both initiatives are developed independently by SSIP.
They have no governmental, cantonal, federal or investment-promotion mandate.
SSIP does not claim to represent Switzerland, Lucerne, HSLU, ESA, TECHNOPARK® Luzern, Lucerne Business or the Swiss space ecosystem as an official authority.
The model is deliberately complementary.
SSIP's role is to provide an independent entry point, structure relevant information, connect capabilities and support the development of credible projects.
